In preparation for Earth Day next week, Alice High School AP and second year art classes took advantage of this week's good weather to create radial murals outside the campus using found materials to form a "nature quilt."

The driver of a white truck that led authorities on a high speed chase through Alice and Jim Wells County was arrested.
Authorities pursued a truck out of Calallen with stolen goods. The truck made its way through Alice at a high rate of speed and made its way to the Ben Bolt area before law authorities were able to box the driver in.

David Gonzales Rocha Jr., 44, from Kingsville, was currently wanted for a parole violation from the Texas Pardon and Parole office for the offense of robbery. He was also wanted from Kleberg County for the offense of larceny. He also has charges here in Jim Wells County following today's activities.

Daniel Galvan, an Alice ISD school bus driver, was recently honored by the Property Casualty Alliance of Texas (PCAT) as the 2013-2014 PCAT Bus Driver of the Year for Alice ISD. The award was presented Galvan by Dr. Grace Everett on April 14.

Smoke in our eyes
Both public and private places must take note of the recent passage by Alice City Council of an ordinance banning smoking in all public places. The new law, presented by City Attorney Joe Torres [on behalf of council], prohibits smoking except in the exemptions provided for, such as bars, private clubs, tobacco shops, most outdoor areas, private offices and designated hotel/motel rooms.

Lady Coyotes fall to Texans
The Alice Varsity girl's softball team lost a tough matchup Saturday afternoon, as they fell to the Lady Ray Texans 13-1 in a game the Lady Coyotes could not seem to get going in. For the Coyotes, Lisette Lynch got the start and pitched five innings of work in the loss. Lynch also had an RBI double in the loss for the Coyotes, as it provided the only run in the game for Alice.
